Instapix Photo Kiosk
Three seconds after the shot, a photo on a receipt
Instapix is an instant photo kiosk for cafés, events and weddings. Since 2023 ZEROPLUSONE has built its Android kiosk app, thermal printer control and device integration — a device that keeps running in the field.

Overview
A moment kept on a receipt
Instapix is an instant camera guests use themselves at cafés, events and weddings. For venues it is an experience that makes guests stay, and the business runs two ways: selling devices and renting them out.
Approach
A device in the field has to keep running before it does anything else.
If a kiosk stops once, guests walk away and the venue won’t turn it back on. Rather than adding features, we focused on two promises — a print in three seconds and unattended operation — and split the app to fit the sales and rental business models.
01/02
Touch, shoot, print. Three steps.
Tap the idle screen, press the shutter, and the photo comes out within three seconds. Screens and steps are cut down so guests can use it alone without staff, and the app keeps checking the printer connection and paper.

02/02
A printer that can’t print gray, printing photos
A thermal printer can only print black dots. We adjust contrast so faces don’t smear and turn the photo’s tones into dot density, so it still looks like a photo on receipt paper.

Highlights
- 01Same speed, whatever the network
Everything from capture to print runs on the device, so it prints at the same speed even on flaky event Wi-Fi.
- 02Two apps for two business models
Separate apps for device sales and rentals, distributed on Google Play.
- 03Only the settings change per venue
Frames, logos, captions and filters are template settings in the app, so a new venue or event gets the device right away without rebuilding the app.
- Android
- Camera
- Image Processing
- ESC/POS
